A well deserved spot of RnR on the Perhentian Islands. Some of the best beaches and sea food in Malaysia. We took a flight from Kuching direct to Kota Baharu near the Thai border, before a bus/taxi down the coast to the port of Kuala Besut. From here its a 45 minute speed boat - slamming across the waves - to the Perhentian Islands. We stayed in the Cocohut Beach Chalet, in their new huts on the beach. The best fresh sea food we found was in water colours restaurant, just a 5 minute water taxi ride away. On the last night we got back to the beach just before an epic thunderstorm hit the islands!
Gunung Mulu National Park, the jewel of Malaysian Borneo.Listed as a World Heritage Site in 2000, and rightly so. It hosts some of the biggest and most impressive caves in the world… The Mulu 'Showcaves'. We spent 3 days in Mulu, in a private jungle chalet and explored the Deer and Lang Cave, the Clear Water Cave, the Mulu Skywalk, nightwalks, bird towers and canoe trips down the river to Longhouses. Flying into the tiny airport in Mulu, over the jungle canopy in an ATR72, an experience in itself! A must see for a true Borneo experience. Highly recommeded… even if you cant use tripods in the caves!

Bako National Park, this is where the adventure truely starts in Borneo! Taking the bus from Kuching and then a speedboat to the park entrance. The tide was in so we have to wade ashore and onto a stunning wild beach and into the jungle. Bako National park has amazing hiking trails, through the jungles and across the island penisular to deserted jungle beaches. Before taking a local boat back to our jungle cabin! Famous for its Proboscis Monkeys which laze around in the trees just outside our banda.

KL - Kuala Lumpur - has a fantastic transport system. A rapidly developing Asian city. The monorail and metro/train system around KL is great.
Taking an evening boat trip along the Sarawak River in Kuching. Dodging the showers as a summer storm passed by. From calm river reflections to dark tropical rain clouds and monsoon rain!

The main shopping street in China Town KL. Full of buzzing street vendors selling everything from Calvin Clein underwear, to Prada sunglasses and Longchamp handbags. Very good price! And not to mention the food… among the best in KL.
Timing was everything for these shots. I found this location earlier in the day, and wanted to get back out here for sunset. The sunset itself was a little disppointing, but thankfully, from experience we stayed around for the show… and what a show it was. Some of the most stunning post-sunset skies I have ever seen. Incredible. Bako National Park, this is where the adventure truely starts in Borneo!
