Stuck in traffic in between New and Old Delhi in an auto-rickshaw (tuk-tuk). I was intent on capturing a portrait of the driver, as he was so photogenic and was captivating me with his stories and expressions. Dodging cars, lorries, people and cows in the Indian streets does not make easy portrait conditions. But I managed this first candid shot, and then the second portrait where he just opened into this amazing smile!

The Train Down
This is the train station at Varanasi, India. With over 10 platforms, even more trains and very few signs in English this was a rather close call catching our train. With over 16 hours ahead of us, every stop at a station became a photo opportunity and chance to stretch the legs.

A favourite yet powerful image. This is the train station at Varanasi, India. With over 10 platforms, even more trains and very few signs in English this was a rather close call catching our train. While waiting the light on this platform was just incredible. Spreading right down the tracks, literally like a tunnel of light. But with the platform so dark the contrast was perfect for a high-key scene which I love. This is over 2 stops of exposure compensation to blow out the highlights. This poor guy was in a bad bad way on the platform, and as I watched everyone who passed… only one person paid him any attention. This is the world we live in.

Walking along the Ghats of the River Ganges in Varanasi, India, really is quite the surreal experience. On one side, you have markets, food-stalls, music, burning-incense and art graffitied walls and street cafes. To your other side, you have the most sacred place in the Hindu world for cremating (if your family can afford it) the dead. Evening candle lit rituals are held throughout the year with chanting, singing , performing all under candle light as the current of the mighty River Ganges carries away the remains of those Hindus lucky enough to finish their journey in Shivas City of Light.

The Monkey Temple (Galwar Bagh), Jaipur, India in the blistering summer heat. Too hot for tourists it was often just us and the Monkeys.

The impress yet imposing Amber Fort, of Rajasthan could be the ideal film set for an Indian Jones film. Its ancient vertical stone walls covered in pastel yellow and beautifully ornate windows. Overlooking the city of Jaipur and enclosing beautiful courtyards and temples. Go in the dry season and its too hot for all but the maddest of tourists!
